Weekend Homework for 6th AND 8th

6th Grade:  B day students received a homework assignment for the weekend (A day students will receive this assignment tomorrow).  Students should answer two of the following prompts in a paragraph form (one for each).  Paragraphs should contain support from the text, such as what was reviewed in class.  If you did not get a chance to write down all of the quotes you might need to answer the questions, search online for the audio version of The Giver and write down what you hear.  You can listen to it on YouTube, for example.  You may be able to find the text online, but it will most likely be a sample only, since the text is still recently copyrighted.

The prompts are: 1.  What caused the elders to choose Jonas for Receiver of Memory?  2.  Why is the rule, "You may lie," significant for Jonas?  3.  Explain how the Receiver of Memory's dwelling is different from the ones Jonas knows.

8th Grade:  Your homework for this weekend is to create a "Wanted" poster for Mr. Hyde from The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.  You should include your illustration for what Mr. Hyde might look like, making sure to think about the descriptions in the text.  You can easily find the novella online since it is an older book.  Just search for it and read back over what we have covered if you can't remember.  Your poster should also include what Mr. Hyde is "wanted" for, a written description of him, perhaps a description of where he might be found, and a reward.  Make it pretty!
